A Weekend In Review

Well, despite my dire worries and predictions for last Friday (my bad, bad day) I didn’t get any other tickets or get into any accidents driving home. Traffic wasn’t much fun and I didn’t get home until much later than I had planned, but that was ok. Once home Michael and I worked frantically getting the last of the cleaning and decorating done. Well, we didn’t really decorate, we just hung a few things on the walls and Michael finished replacing most of the electrical outlets in the downstairs part of the house. In the meantime I thoroughly cleaned the two bathrooms upstairs and left the ½ bath to be cleaned in the morning (it didn’t take more than 15 minutes to do the whole thing).

So the weekend with MIL and aunt went quite well. I felt a little frazzled because I wanted to be there to show the house for the first time, especially since we put so much work into it. Michael wanted to drive his mom and aunt home right after picking them up, which would mean I wouldn’t be there due to my RE appointment, but I finally convinced him to take his mom and aunt over to my parents for a quick ‘hello’/’goodbye’ before going to our house to stall for some time. Also, because my parents wanted to at least see Michael’s mom for a moment since they were leaving that afternoon for 6 weeks in Europe.

Of course, once I got to my RE’s office, I found that the waiting room was overflowing and there wasn’t a single place for me to sit. I knew then that I would not be getting out of there in the usual 15 minutes it takes for a Day 2 ultrasound and blood work. Despite my letting the receptionist know that I was in rather a hurry, I didn’t expect them to be able to sneak me in between anyone else, since they were so busy. I overheard one couple talking about their embryo transfer that day and knew that my appointment wasn’t nearly as important as theirs, and yet to me, it was very important! Luckily I got into the examining room just 10 min. later than my appointment time and after about another 10 min wait, the nurse practitioner arrived. Now I don’t know if she really is as slow as it seemed she was on Saturday, or if it was just because I was in such a hurry to get out of there that it seemed to take her forever to get things ready and get the exam going.

The exam went well. At first I couldn’t tell what she was looking for/at in the ultrasound and everything looked very different without this huge fibroid that I always used for navigation of my innards in the past. So I asked her what she was looking at and she very kindly explained everything to me. Then I could see that my uterus still had a ‘bulge’ on the one side from where the fibroid used to be, but it was not bad and not effecting the inner cavity of the uterus. One thing surprised me though. When she checked out my ovaries, she said that they looked very normal and healthy and although there were some follicles, she said they were normal and normal sized for Day 2 in the cycle. What surprised me about that is that I believe I had been told before that those same ‘follicles’ were numerous small cysts, hence the Polycystic Ovary Syndrome diagnosis (though not all women with PCOS have cysts on their ovaries). So, I’m not sure what to believe any more. I know I have PCOS because of some other blood tests, but I’m not sure about my ‘cystic’ ovaries any more. Luckily none of the follicles were 9mm or larger, or I would have had to sit out one more cycle before doing clomid for fear of developing an ovarian cyst.

Finally, I got my prescription for clomid, they took two vials of blood (after breaking an empty vial on the floor and wasting my precious time trying to find a broom to sweep it up with), and I could finally get out of there. I had been hoping to get to my parents by 12:30 and it was already 12:20. And then I did something REALLY stupid. Something no born and bred Seattlite in their right mind should/would do. I figured it might be faster to just take I-520 across Lake Washington to I-5 and zip up to my parents that way. It really was the shorter and quicker way. But any Seattlite should know that weekends in June, particularly the beginning of June, equals graduations ceremonies at either Seattle Center or the U of W. I didn’t discover my grave mistake until I was already past the last exit to get off I-520 before the bridge. It just so happened that Saturday was graduation day for the U of W. Approximately 10,000 students graduating. It felt like all of the greater Metropolitan Seattle/Bellevue area was trying to take the two-lane bridge to the U of W. It took me 35 min. to go 3 miles. Of course, once I was past the U of W the road was wide open, and to my luck Michael got stuck in the same traffic coming from downtown until he passed the U of W exit also, so we arrived at my parents at pretty much the same time.

After all that, the tour of our house was a tiny bit of a let down. I didn’t expect our visitors to dance a jig, but I think I had worked myself up so much about showing off our house, that anything less ended being a bit of a comedown. Michael’s mom did love our house and made many, many favorable and nice comments about it, and right away started dispensing much appreciated decorating advice, ideas and such. We are still hoping that she might come out to visit for a month and help us out with wallpapering, painting, accessorizing and such. She just has such a knack for it. She did say she would like to do so, but the deal is that I need to get pregnant so that she can come out with the first order of business being to help decorate the nursery, though I think that should that not happen, she’ll still come out and help us out with the rest of the house. It just might be a while before we can get her out here again. We tried to talk her into staying longer this time, but she is expecting company at her house soon and wants to get home to get it ready as well.

We spent the rest of the weekend just catching up, going to Snohomish and checking out a number of antique stores, playing Rummicube, and the like. It really was a nice weekend, but we got up early Saturday morning to finish up getting everything ready and then on Sunday morning MIL and aunt were up before 7:00 so we dragged our butts out of bed by 7:00 when I had been hoping to sleep in at least until 8:00. But they were walking around and tinkering in the kitchen right below our bedroom and I couldn’t sleep anymore anyway. So I was TIRED. In fact, I was so tired, that yesterday after work I just came home and laid down for a nap and didn’t wake up until 9:00 pm!! I got up, ate some cereal and watched “The Weakest Link” and then went back to bed and slept through the night. Michael did the same thing, only he crashed out on the couch.

Well, I guess that is the long version of my weekend. The short version is that it went well with just a few minor hitches here and there. Oh, and the weather, which was supposed to be just horrid, didn’t turn out all that bad. We had a few sprinkles on Sunday, but Saturday was even a little sunny if unseasonably cool. We got the weather forecast for last weekend yesterday and today. I think I’m going to start building an ark.

Still no news about who is going to be laid off in our group. I wonder if we really will find out within the week like they said. I’m still nervous…

My Clix rating is WAY down this week. What’s wrong? Don’t you all like me anymore? Take pity on my little, modest journal and give me a Clix!
