Thursday, Nov. 08, 2001 - 11:45 pm - Third Ultrasound Update
Just a quick update tonight. I’m ready to hit the sack because tomorrow will be a busy day because I don’t expect to be doing much from Saturday on. Yup, we “triggered” tonight with the hCG injection which should mature my eggs and prepare them for ovulation. This means that I will be going in on Saturday morning at 9:30 for my egg retrieval!! Wow! I’m getting a little nervous now, I must admit. I asked a few questions about the egg retrieval at my appointment today and found out that I will be asleep through the procedure and because it is a sterile procedure, Michael will not be allowed to be in the room with me when they retrieve the eggs. I’m ok with that but Michael was a little disappointed that he wouldn’t get to be there. I believe he will get to be there when they do the embryo transfer though. Right now I’m most worried about how many eggs they’ll be able to retrieve and if they’ll fertilize or not. I’m really worried. I can’t stop worrying about it either. We are now upon the next hurdle and it has me very scared. This is what we’ve been waiting for for over 2 months. I’ll be crushed if we don’t get many eggs or if they don’t fertilize well. I wish I had Michael’s confidence. He’s so sure it will all go perfectly and that by next week I’ll be pregnant!!! I wish I could be as confident! When the nurse checked my ovaries today, she first checked the right side and I saw maybe 2 large follicles (I couldn’t see the ultrasound screen well though) but then when she checked out the left side, my ovaries looked HUGE and full of big dark circles (follicles). She asked me if I felt a difference in my sides, but quite honestly I feel my right side more!! Both sides are starting to ache a little when I walk but not too bad. I did go to the gym today, but didn’t feel up to walking, doing the elliptical or biking due to feeling sore in my ovaries, so I just swam for 40 minutes. I can only imagine that they must feel really sore for those women who have 20 or more follicles though. I’m afraid I envy those women a little. One woman I’m in contact with had 20 eggs retrieved and 19 of them fertilized perfectly, so they transferred 2 and froze 17!!! Unfortunately she didn’t get pregnant, but at least they have a bunch of embryos to fall back on for future FET (Frozen Embryo Transfers). I just hope it works for her soon!! I’ve got a lot to get done tomorrow – my last ‘free day’ before the retrieval – so time for me to get to bed. I hope everyone will be thinking positive thoughts and sending them our way at 9:30 am (PT) on Saturday!!! I think I’ll sleep with my Kokopeli fridge magnet under my pillow and my stuffed stork (yes my mom bought me a stuffed stork in Germany) under my arm!!! LOL I’m not sure if I’ll be updating tomorrow or not, but I’ll try to update on Saturday and let you know how the egg retrieval went and how many eggs they got! Thanks for reading!! For some reason my Guestbook seems to be broken, I’d still love to hear from you though, so please send me email instead!! Thank you!
