Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001 - 6:34 p.m. - A Nice Change of Pace
After spending two days between the couch and our bed I was ready to get up and do something yesterday. I didn’t want to overdo, because according the chart on the wall at the RE’s office that Michael and I analyzed, the embryos should be reaching the point where they should be embedding into the endometrial lining these next few days. In fact, it’s kind of scary to think that by the end of the weekend either I’ll have started a pregnancy or not. It could be all over, I just won’t know for another week and a half! But I’m trying not to think about that. Anyway, I did have a blood test scheduled to check my progesterone levels to make sure I was getting the right dosage, so we headed over to Bellevue to my RE’s office and I dutifully gave my blood. (I wonder how many pints that makes this year alone?!) I also requested that they give me a call and let me know what the actual progesterone number was, since they usually only call if there is a problem and just leave you hanging (but knowing everything is fine) if there is nothing wrong. Then Michael asked me if I was up for a short side trip before going home. I said I was and he headed off on I-90 towards Issaquah. You see, on October 30 Washington State finally got their first Krispy Kreme which opened in Issaquah. My husband has a definite thing for Krispy Kremes. I had my first Krispy Kreme when I was in Las Vegas in September and I must concur that they are excellent, so I was willing to go and see what the lines were like at 10:30am on a Friday morning. We had driven by about a week after the store had opened, but the line was unbelievable and the wait was around 3 hours!!! Obviously we didn’t want the donuts bad enough to wait that long and thought we’d try after they’d been open for a few weeks. Well, we were in luck, while there was still a line and a wait, we decided to stick it out and I had brought Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, so I read out loud while we waited and the time passed rather quickly. All in all it was a total of 45 minutes from the time we arrived until we drove off with our 5 dozen donuts!!! Yes, 5 dozen. No, they weren’t all for us. Michael had a few friends who were as anxious for Krispy Kremes as he was, so we bought some extra and shared them with some friends and neighbors, some of whom had never tried them before either. After all that excitement from the morning, I went back to lying down and resting up for our eagerly anticipated evening – we had pre-purchased tickets to see Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone!! We knew that even with the pre-purchased tickets that we would have to get there early if we wanted to sit together and get decent seats, so we planned on getting there an hour ahead of time; I would stake out our place in line while Michael would park the car and run over to a nearby restaurant and get us some take out for dinner. It worked out wonderfully and we had a funny little “picnic” on the floor while waiting in line to get into the theater while people stood and sat around us. I must say the waiting crowd was very friendly. Everyone was quite excited and talkative. We felt like we got to know the people both in front and in back of us pretty well by the time we were let into the theater. Best of all, we got great seats, so it was definitely worth it. The movie was excellent!! Definitely one of the best book adaptations I have seen in a long time. I’m afraid I’m one of those people who really has a problem with the film directors who take too many liberties when transferring a book to screen and while I had read that Chris Columbus had worked hard to stay as true to the book as possible, I was a little worried about being disappointed. I didn’t have to be. It was truly excellent. Not only the scenery and special effects met my expectations, but also the actors seemed perfect for the roles they portrayed. I was particularly impressed with the children who played Ron and Hermione. I have to say I felt they stole some of the attention away from Harry for both Michael and I. I thought Harry was well cast as well, but we were more enchanted with Ron and Hermione. I noticed I kept watching those two almost more than Harry for their facial expressions and body language. For such young actors, I felt they did an excellent job. Once the hype dies down a little bit, we definitely want to go again. It was a fun and memorable evening. So that was our exciting day yesterday. Oh and the good news was that my progesterone level came back excellent at 52! Granted that doesn’t really mean anything in regard to pregnancy, but it does mean that my progesterone level is high enough to sustain pregnancy should one of our “peeps” decide to implant. Now we just continue the waiting game…..
