Tuesday, Mar. 12, 2002 - 10:03 p.m. - Back Home
I returned from my trip to Portland on Saturday night. Since then I’ve been tired and lazy. It took me a whole day just to catch up somewhat on my email (I still have some catching up to do yet), but I’m still in a kind of slump about sitting at the computer and composing entries lately. Not sure why. It’s a good thing I do my journal online and the guilt to write something because I know people are wondering how I’m doing or if something is wrong when I don’t update is a great motivator to keep going. If I were just keeping a paper journal, it would be long over once again. I’ve never been good about keeping a journal before and here I’ve been keeping one online for a year and a half now! I’m quite pleased about that. Also, I want to keep this journal going for our future child. After detailing the struggle to get pregnant, I certainly want to continue the story throughout the pregnancy and hopefully beyond for my child. My trip was a lot of fun, but tiring. Driving down wasn’t too bad. I had my books on tape (finished Hannibal and The Man Who Ate the 747), my snacks and my water. The trip down usually doesn’t seem long, but the last 45 minutes seemed long this time. I guess after 2 ½ hours I’m ready to be where I want to be when I’m driving. If I’m the passenger in the car, I don’t mind driving longer. I spent the first 2 ½ days with my friend, “I”, and her little daughter and husband (though he was at work the majority of the time). We went downtown and looked at some stores and on Friday checked out the Hanna Anderson Outlet store! Unfortunately, most of the marked down items were pretty much girl or boy items and since we don’t know what we are having yet, I didn’t want to buy anything. The more unisex items were unfortunately not any less expensive than they are in the catalogues. I did buy a cute outfit for “S” though. We tried it on her and she looked so adorable I just had to get it. Sadly my friend’s husband is against “girly” outfits and doesn’t particularly like pink or “girly” things on his daughter, but she has such fair skin that pink looks lovely on her. So in spite of him, I bought a pink outfit for her. It wasn’t frilly at all, but it was pink. My friend agreed that it looked especially cute on little “S” so I bought it as a belated birthday present. I just hope that she does put her in it. She looked so cute in it when we tried it on her. We also went to visit one of the “Spinsters” who moved down to Portland in October of last year. It was good to see her and see her new house. Sadly little “S” decided to take her nap on our way over to my friend’s house so she slept through most of the visit, much to my friend’s little boys disappointment who had been told a little playmate was coming to play with him. By the time she woke up and started to warm up to everyone, we had to leave because “I” had an appointment with a chimney man back at her house. Still it was a nice visit. I rounded off my trip, with one more night spent at another dear “Kindred Spirit” friend of mine, “M”. (I really should come up with aliases for my friends, but I know I’d get them mixed up and forget them.) “M” and her husband purchased a home last year and I was stunned by the amount of work that they have done on their home. It was a real fixer-uper and they have turned it into a wonderfully cozy home! They have a huge piece of property and have big plans for their garden, but after seeing what they’ve done to their house in one short year, I have no doubt that they will have their garden in order in a few years despite the fact that it is completely overgrown and hasn’t been tended for many, many years. ”M” and I had so much fun chatting and looking at pictures that we didn’t even realize that it was 10:00pm and we hadn’t eaten dinner yet!! We hurriedly took off to find someplace that would still be open to serve us in her small community and were in luck when we found a cozy Italian restaurant still open. Of course, we chatted without stop all through dinner, but fell into bed exhausted after that. Sadly poor “M’s” husband wasn’t feeling well that evening and had come home from work and gone straight to bed, but it was probably better that way, since we had a chance to catch up on all our “girly” chat that evening. The next morning, “M” made a wonderful breakfast with homemade scones and her wonderful homemade raspberry jam and we chatted away the morning. Then we checked out Multnomah Village a bit before I headed back to Seattle and my sweet hubby and kitty. I must say I’ve never been more ready to come home before. Not that I didn’t have a wonderful time, but by Friday night/Saturday morning, I was really missing my husband and kitty and my home. I’ve never felt that way before. I’ve never minded being away from home and while I’ve always enjoyed coming home, I never missed it like I did this time. Needless to say, the trip back seemed to take forever! At least I was fortunate with the weather, despite predictions of snow (and the fact that it did snow in Seattle while I was gone) the roads were dry and clear for the majority of my trip. Coming home was wonderful. It was so good to see my hubby again and hold my kitty (who was definitely upset with me for leaving her for 4 days)! And do you know what my wonderful, sweet and thoughtful husband did while I was gone?? He painted the entire kitchen and had everything back on the walls and in place by the time I came back!!! He must have worked his butt off the whole time I was gone! Not only did he paint everything, but he sanded, primed and painted all the window frames and molding. We just need to hang the curtains back up and the whole kitchen is done. A job I had been dreading for weeks!! I still can’t believe he did all that as a surprise for me. Of course, it is perfect. My hubby is definitely a perfectionist! What’s more, my hubby had a job interview today! Not only that, but he has phone interview tomorrow (technical interview). He had his first phone interview with the owner of the company yesterday and ended up talking with the guy for an hour and a half. It sounded like they were really getting along on the phone, and this phone interview tomorrow is with the same company. The interview he had today is with a company that used to be a rival company to his former company and with which he would be doing much the same thing that he did before. At this point he’s really hoping for offers from both companies, but I think he’d go with the smaller company (phone interview one) if given the choice. Either way, I just hope he gets an offer from either one! I’d love for him to have a regular paycheck again, not to mention the fact that I think he needs to get back to work. My husband isn’t the type to be sitting around at home and being unemployed for 6 months has been very hard on him. Granted, he has kept busy with projects around the house and I’ll miss that, but I also know he needs to be out working with other people and facing new challenges in his field of expertise. So keep your fingers crossed for us. It would be so nice not to have to worry about money so much. So that should have you all caught up on my doings and happenings here in our household. No new Peep news. I am still enjoying listening to the heartbeat daily with my BabyBeat. It’s such a thrill and so reassuring. Our next appointment isn’t until March 26 which is when we do the big ultrasound! Only 2 more weeks before we (hopefully) know the sex of our little one!!! Then the buying bonanza begins for my mom. (Actually she bought us two little outfits and some baby clothing hangers today!)
