Well, I promised the story of how we told my parents about the sex of the baby. I’d been planning for weeks how to tell them in a fun way, and finally decided that once we found out that we would go and buy an outfit in either pink or blue and tell them by pulling the outfit out of a bag or something to that effect. Besides, I knew that once I knew the sex, I’d want to go and buy something either for a boy or a girl. I’ve already bought and received a few unisex outfits, but have eyed the boys and girls sections longingly at various stores, waiting for the day I would know in which section I’d be buying. So after we came home and ate some lunch and repeated in amazement “it’s a girl, we’re having a girl” ad nauseum I wanted to head over to the nearest store and buy some little pink outfit to tell my parents with. Unfortunately Michael was suffering a bad headache and was afraid it would turn into one of his sick headaches so he wanted to lie down for a while. Although I was anxious to go shopping, I agreed and took pictures of our ultrasound pictures, posted the good news on my Due in September boards and chatted with my friend Diffy. I also called my mom to set up a time for us to go to their house or for them to come to ours. The decision was made that they would come here and then we would go together to my brother’s house to celebrate my nephews 6th birthday. Finally, after what seemed much too long for me, but was really just a few hours, I got Michael up and we went out to look at baby things! I’m glad Michael came along though, because he was much more generous about buying things than I would have been. I would have just bought maybe two things, but we ended up buying 5 or 6! We decided that rather than just pulling a pink outfit out of the bag, that we would tease my parents by pulling a yellow outfit out of the bag first. This is the outfit we bought to use for that. (It has little bees on it and we bought a matching bib that says “tiny little bee” on it, because Michael said we needed to get it ‘cause he calls me his “Squeetie Bee” and now he’d have a “little Bee”. I couldn’t say no to that now could I?) We bought one of those little layette “sacks” (the ones with the elastic at the bottom) because it had little stars and “twinkle” written all over it. Despite knowing the sex, the room plan hasn’t changed. We’re still doing the “star” theme! This little one will be our little “Star”, so it is only fitting. We also bought a little purple outfit that has little ladybugs and bees on the shirt – too cute! Then Michael found and picked out the little pink outfit that we used for the ‘presentation’. My parent’s response and expressions when we first pulled the yellow outfit out of the bag was precious – they just didn’t know how to respond. They were so confused it was perfect! Unfortunately we didn’t catch it on film, but then Michael was on top of it enough to get the digital camera to record their reaction when we pulled out the pink outfit. I’m so glad because it was so fun!!! My mom was SO excited. My dad was too, but he’s a little more laid back in his response. He just grinned and gave me the biggest hug and I know he’s thrilled. He just loves little girls and they always go right to him. He has such a gentle, caring way about him. My mom is sometimes too vivacious for kids at times, especially if they are shy, but they go to my dad right off each time. Once they warm up, then they get a kick out of my mom. They are both wonderful, loving grandparents and they are thrilled to get to ‘start all over’ with another little one again. (My nephews are now 4 and 6.) As you can see my parents were as thrilled as we were with the news! We shared the news via phone with my sister who so badly wanted a little girl in the family. She was so happy also. My brother said he was hoping for a girl in the family, so he was thrilled with the news too. So I’d say the whole family is excited and happy about our little one. She is coming into a home where she will be surrounded by so much love. Everyone is so ready and excited for her to arrive. And it’s not only family, but so many family friends have been rooting for us and are so excited about this little one’s arrival. I feel like half the world is cheering for us!!! I just hope everything continues to go well and our little one arrives healthy in September!
