Monday, May. 13, 2002 - 11:24 p.m. - Mother's Day Recap and Some More Pictures of the Nursery
Actually I kind of already wrote a Mother’s Day recap in my weblog along with a picture of my gifts, so I’m going to be lazy and point you there for that. Let me just say that it was a really nice day. Best of all, it was the first Mother’s Day in quite some time that wasn’t bittersweet, it was just plain sweet. For the first time I have real hope that my dream to be a mom is going to come true. That’s Mother’s Day enough for me. The weather here was also gorgeous! After so many weeks of temperatures at least 10 – 13 degrees below our normal spring temperatures, we actually got a taste of summer. I found out today that the temperatures yesterday reached in to the low 80’s. Of course, today it was back in the upper 50’s and low 60’s again, but it was a real nice treat to have such wonderful weather for Mother’s Day. First I got up and opened my cards and presents (see my weblog for details) and then Michael and I sat in our living room looking out our window into our garden and just talked for a good hour. I love times like that. Just sitting and talking about all kinds of things, our dreams, our hopes for the future, things we’d like to do to fix up the house, what we’d do if we won the lotto, how lucky we are right at this very moment despite his lack of work, etc. Those are the moments I cherish. Those sweet, quiet moments. I realize after the Peep arrives those will be fewer and far between, so I’m enjoying them now. It almost makes his not having a job yet kind of nice, though I could do without the stress about money worries. We then decided to go out and go to Home Depot and pick out a few plants for our yard. We are fortunate to have tons of azaleas and rhododendron in our yard, which make it very colorful in spring, but once they finish blooming, we don’t have a lot of color for summer. We are trying to fix that over time, as we can’t afford to buy a lot of plants right now. But I have to have a few pots for my front doorstep and for the back patio. Slowly we will add more perennials so that we only have to add a few annuals every year for color spots. I wanted to just get a few petunias, impatients and geraniums and such for some color, but the selection was rather poor and I didn’t get very many. I’ll have to check back another time, I’m sure they’ll get more in. We did pick out a few perennials to plant and two tomato plants, a pepper plant and a pumpkin (Michael wants to try growing the pumpkin) plant. We came home to plant them, but then suddenly I was SO hot and felt a bit faint, so I went inside and layed down a little while Michael finished up planting a few things. I still have some more I have to put into the ground, but they’ll have to wait until I get time and the weather gets a little better again. We had planned to go out for a nice dinner in Edmonds to a restaurant I particularly enjoy that has a wonderful view over the water and the Olympic Mountains (and they were magnificent yesterday), but we were so hot and pooped that we decided to just stay home. Michael got some take-out instead and we had a nice cozy dinner together. A really wonderful, peaceful Mother’s Day. Here are a few more pictures of the nursery progress that I took this last weekend. No new pictures of the work we did today yet. Our progress – moon, stars, trees, and village are taking shape
The other side of the room – mushroom village, flowers, sun A close-up of the mushroom village and flowers Part of the ceiling – can you see the stars? Can you find Orion? As I said there is still a lot more that we have to do, but you can kind of get the idea. To the right of the mushroom village we are going to attempt (or I should say my mom is) to paint some animals carrying lanterns. We still need to paint a lot of flowers, mushrooms, a small house or two on the horizon and a few more characters. I think it is going to end up really cute. Oh and we are going to add a black cat (Midnight) and “stamp” a few of her paw prints on the wall someplace too. My brother insists on painting a pig someplace on the wall, and I’m going to see if my sister and my sister-in-law wants to add something of their own too. I thought that might be kind of fun later on to tell the little Peep of how we all painted something. Well, it’s time for my shot and then off to bed with me! Good night from me, the Peep and Midnight who is curled up on top of my monitor and peeking at what I’m typing.
