26 Week Update

In some ways the weeks seem to be flying by and in other ways they still seem to be dragging. I must say that having Mali here and being busy with all kinds of entertaining and such has been good for making the time fly by. And now that we have a deadline for the nursery (June 29th) to be done, that is good for us too. It will keep us busy and focused for the rest of this month. (My friends are throwing me a baby shower on the 29th but it will be at our place because I have more room here.)

In other news, if you don’t keep up with my infrequent weblog postings, I failed my 1 hour Glucose Tolerance Test and have to take the 3 hour test tomorrow. I’m more than just a little anxious about this. I knew this might be a concern all along due to my PCOS (higher predisposition to develop GD as well as Diabetes), nonetheless it upset me a great deal. I’m very worried already about things going well with my pregnancy, I didn’t need another issue to worry about. Please keep your fingers crossed for me that I pass the 3 hour test and not have to worry about GD or, heaven forbid, insulin injections on top of my current schedule of injections!

We had our first Parenting Class last Monday and go again tonight for the next session. The first class was interesting but more of an introduction, I’m looking forward to getting more into the various topics. We don’t do the actual “birthing” stuff until next month, I believe. However, tomorrow just happens to be our class on breastfeeding and Michael will be unable to attend due to the fact that he is taking our SIL, who has been staying with us for the last week, back up to Oak Harbor for her driving test. Michael is bummed because he was hoping to get some peeks at boobs (men!) other than my own! And I was hoping that he might enjoy seeing some of the newborns. Apparently moms come in to discuss their breastfeeding experiences and bring their newborns with them. Of course, I, who can never get enough of babies, am looking forward to seeing the little mites. I still can’t believe that in 3 months I might have one of those precious little bundles myself.

I think I might ask if we can attend another session of the breastfeeding class so that Michael can attend if I feel like it is something he really shouldn’t miss. They run multiple sessions of these classes at the same time, so it might be possible. Oh and if you are interested, we are planning on giving birth at Evergreen Hospital.

I also finally got another belly shot. Sorry it is a little far away, but you’ll get the idea. You’ll have to check back here to see the difference. I still feel like I’m HUGE, but sometimes when I wear certain dresses people don’t even notice that I’m pregnant! So I guess I’m not as huge as I feel. I have that pg waddle starting to happen though and getting in and out of my husband’s and my car is getting hard (we both have sporty cars that are low to the ground).

Well here I am in my 25 + weeks glory!

My belly at 25+ weeks!

I’m still working on getting registered at Babies R Us and I think I’ll also register at Target and Baby Depot since they are both near us. We got an infant car seat from friends that after being cleaned (it was in storage for the last 2 years) looks perfectly new. We also got a swing from them. We are getting a high chair and pac-n-play from my brother. Hopefully we’ll get a nice cradle from our neighbors for when the baby is still small, as well as a stroller. So I’m feeling like most of our immediate needs for big ticket items are pretty much covered and fortunately have not cost us anything! So really we just need things like blankets, bath towels, changing pad for the top of the dresser, waterproof pads, crib sheets, newborn clothing (I got a lot of 2nd hand later clothes from dear friends already!), diapers and such. We feel so fortunate. I know I want a sling of some kind, but I’m thinking the Maya Wrap would be my choice, but I can’t really register for it anywhere. Anyone know better about this?

Overall, I’m not feeling too stressed about acquiring thing for the baby. I know when it comes right down to it that you need a few essentials and the rest is just extra. The other things might be nice to have, but I think we have most of the need-to-haves covered, other than some of the basics I listed above. I love some of the Hanna Anderson things, but just can’t seem to let myself splurge right now to buy them with money being so tight around here right now. If Michael would only get a job, then I would allow myself a few extras from that catalog or stores, but until he does, I’ll just have to wait I guess.

Well, I guess I’d better dash and do my injection. I can’t believe I managed to post another journal entry so quickly after the last one. Of course, the next one might not get posted for another 2 weeks at the rate I’m going these days. Thanks to those of you who are sticking with me despite my long absences! As always I’m way behind in email but I appreciate all the sweet notes and guestbook entries I’ve received! I have the best readers!
