Sunday, Jul. 21, 2002 - 2:35 p.m. - 2nd Shower Update and some Pictures
Once again last week was a busy one for us as we got ready for another shower at my house. I know that showers are traditionally held at a hostesses home so that the expectant mother-to-be doesn’t have to do as much preparation, but being that we wanted to show off our cute nursery and since many people had never seen our home, we chose to have both showers here. The disadvantage is that we had to do a lot of weeding and a little extra clean-up work, but the advantage was that we had to do a lot of weeding and a little extra clean-up work! (grin) Once again our house looks great and is pretty spotless. Fortunately we didn’t have to do as much work this time around since the last shower was just 3 weeks ago and we’ve been keeping things in order pretty much since then. But bathrooms had to be cleaned, baby gifts and clothes washed and put away, the house needed to be vacuumed, etc. I’ve found that not having a closet in the baby room makes things a little more challenging because I’m still trying to find places to put things (especially since we’ve received SO MANY cute outfits and such for her, but it’s good for me because it forces me to be really organized and not just put things in the closet! For a while the baby things were in the cradle in our room, but I wanted to show the cradle to some friends who might sew me a bumper for it, so it had to be cleaned out. I admit I do still have a pile of laundry in the laundry basket of baby things that need to be washed before I put them away, but that isn’t so bad. Anyway, yesterday we had the baby shower that my sister threw for me with my mom’s help. In case you haven’t read my journal very long, you might not realized that my sister is mentally “delayed,” so really it was my mom’s doing for the most part, but my sister got the “credit.” She was pretty thrilled when everyone told her what a nice shower it was and how nice it was for her to give it to me. This shower guest list was mostly made up of good family friends. People that have known me since I was born and who have be so supportive of me through our infertility struggle. They also all know what a nut I am for babies, since I have babysat many of their grandchildren. Though I did have two girls at the shower who used to babysit ME when I was little too! Most of these people had never seen our home so it was fun to finally show them as well. We kept meaning to have a housewarming party or a Christmas party, but each time the holidays rolled around since we moved to this house we were dealing with a sad time in our lives, so it never happened. I’m hoping maybe this year to have a holiday/naming day party for our little Peep so that we can once again invite everyone to our home (after all, yesterday was mainly just for the women, the husbands all had a “free” day). The shower was so much fun again. As much as I loved receiving gifts and opening these adorably wrapped and decorated packages, I think the best part was seeing and chatting with people I hadn’t seen for quite a while. As for gifts, we received so many wonderful things again. Fortunately this time we also received a few “useful” items from our registry like the bouncy seat and baby monitors we requested. Yet, we still received mainly more adorable outfits. Let’s face it, people just can’t help but have an excuse to go looking at cute little baby girl outfits! Our little girl will be one well dressed little munchkin for the first few years of her life! Two very special gifts we received were the pink blanket with the hearts which my sister-in-law crocheted for our baby and the white blanket to the left of that which was a gift from the little boy I used to nanny. It’s special because it was made for him when he was born and he was brought home from the hospital in it and he wanted me to have it from him. How sweet is that? I know everyone says I’m going to love my own child like no other, but that little boy will always have a special place in my heart and right now I can’t imagine loving any little child more than I love him. (And I have to brag a little here…my little “nanny boy’s” baseball team won the State Championship yesterday and is going on to play in Utah in the next few days. If they win that, they will go to California and if they win there they go to the World Championship game in Texas!!! Unfortunately I forgot which position B plays.) On a completely different note, my family has something else to be quite proud of -- my brother is the Watermelon Seed Spitting Champion of Snohomish! LOL Yesterday, he took my nephews to the local Kla Ha Ya Days Festival and because they wanted him to participate in the Watermelon Seed Spitting contest (one of the boy’s friends had a father who was also participating) he signed up. He was feeling pretty anxious because he’s never done anything like this before and his first try was only 4 feet! But due to some kind of fluke when he spit for the contest he spit first 8 ft, then 21 ft (!!!??!!!) and then once again merely 8 ft. He had no expectation that he would even come close to the champion, but when they went back later to see who had won, he found out that he had!!! Wow, now I can say I’m the sister of the Watermelon Seed Spitting Champion of Snohomish! I made a comment that now that he is living out in the country and winning contests like that, that he really IS turning into a hick. And this from the guy who used to tease me about listening to country music and going country dancing! If you read my weblog you might have noticed that last Wednesday I had the pleasure of meeting and having lunch with Jan and Zeke! She was the 3rd journaler I’ve met so far and it was really great to talk with her and get to hold little Zeke. He’s just a doll and was so incredibly good! He just sucked his thumb and smiled and charmed everyone who walked by! What a cutie!! Jan is also the first journaler I’ve met who also lives in Seattle! I’m hoping that maybe after the Peep makes her arrival, we’ll be able to get together again with both of our little one’s and take some cute pictures. But here are two cute ones in the meantime! And finally just for fun, I’m going to leave you with one last picture of our silly cat, just because we think it is so cute when she does this and we finally got a picture of it yesterday. Unfortuantely, just as we got close enough to her for a really good picture she jumped down, but you’ll get the idea.
Yup, she’s balancing with all four paws on the “ball” of the banister. (I know that has a name, but I’m too lazy to look it up right now.) She doesn’t do it often but when she does it’s just SO cute! She looks like she was meant to be there, like a little statue. Ok, and for fun, I’m going to shamelessly steal an idea from one of my favorite online journalers, Athena!! Since they are not announcing their choice of name for their baby, she had her readers send her guesses as to what they were going to name the baby and why they guessed what they did. That sounds like so much fun, I’m going to shamelessly copy her idea and put that same question out to you. What do YOU think we are going to name our Peep and why? You can send your guesses to me let’s say by next Sunday, July 28th. Speaking of Athena, she’s due to have her little one any time, only he’s already playing games with her and while she’s having contractions they aren’t staying regular enough for her to be sure it is true labor. She’s getting pretty frustrated, so send a few good thoughts her way. Two other journalers, whose journals I read just had their little ones!!! Kerry had a little daughter named Aislin Brook (pronounced Ash-lin) on July 15 and Zannie gave birth to a little son, Bruce Allan on July 18th! Well, I think I’ve pretty much covered everything that I’ve been meaning to write over the last week. Whew! One of these days I’m going to post a short entry and you will all be in shock! Hugs and take care everyone!!!!!!
