Wednesday, Aug. 07, 2002 - 11:05 a.m. - Three Years Ago Today
Today is our 3rd Wedding Anniversary! I can’t believe that it has already been three years since we shared our wedding vows and became a married couple. Wow, I’ve been a “wife” for 3 years and I’ve had a “husband” for 3 years! I remember how strange those words sounded in reference to me and Michael back then. There are times when I still catch myself referring to him as my “boyfriend” (which he still is) and startling at the fact that I have a husband. And in just a short time, I’ll have another title to get used to…. mommy!!! Wow! Each year, I pull out our photo albums of the wedding and Michael and I look through them. We both get pretty nostalgic remembering this and that. This year we were amazed at what a little baby my younger nephew still was – after all then he was just a little over a year old and now he’s a big boy of four!! Fortunately, everyone who attended our wedding is still alive, but a few are sick and not doing well. I wonder how much longer they will be with us. I think that is one reason I value photographs so much, as long as we have them and look at them, those people will never be forgotten. Last year I wrote a letter to Michael expressing my feelings on our 2nd Anniversary. I also mentioned that the weather was less than favorable on our wedding day (ironically today just happens to be the first sunny morning we’ve had in the last 2 weeks), but it didn’t stop us from enjoying the most wonderful day. In fact, our wedding was supposed to be an outdoor wedding, but right before the wedding was supposed to start, it started raining, so everything got moved inside. Fortunately, we had planned for that just in case (something you always have to do here in the Pacific Northwest) and it turned out just as lovely. The rain fell lightly outside and the room was aglow with candles. Just lovely. We were so fortunate to be able to hold our wedding at my parent’s best friend’s beautiful winery. In fact, it was their wedding gift to us, along with a magnum bottle of their wonderful wine that was engraved with our wedding invitation and their best wishes on the back. Just beautiful. In fact, we need to drink that wine one of these days soon. Part of the gift is that they will also refill it for us! This is the same winery where so many other special functions have been held, my parent’s 40th Wedding Anniversary party, my uncle’s retirement party and most recently the 50th Wedding Anniversary and 75 birthday party for those same dear family friends who are the owners. I’d say one of the best things about our wedding was that we had such a lot of fun! Fortunately, my family and Michael’s family got along famously and there was much joking back and forth. Michael and I were very relaxed, and while there were some minor slip ups here and there, nothing terrible happened. I think we took the photographer a bit by surprise with our relaxed and joking attitude, but fortunately he went along with it. One of the things Michael requested was a shot of him “checking out my cleavage” since until now, I’ve never really had much to speak of. Of course, for the wedding I fixed up my dress to help push ‘em up and squeeze ‘em out to their best advantage. Michael was quite pleasantly surprised as the following picture shows. Funny enough, though the photographer was a little wary about taking this picture, it ended up going into his own portfolio (along with the picture of me holding the umbrella – another silly shot) to show at wedding shows and such. In fact, he ended up making an entire album of our wedding to show at bridal fairs and shows!!! Well, it was a magical day and I hope you enjoyed walking down memory lane with me.
