Oh Wow, It Looks Like We Have A Date

This journal entry was started 8.8.02 and was completed 8.9.02

Oh wow, I just got back from my OB appointment and it looks like we’ve got a date for when the Peep might arrive! Although the actual c-section appointment has not been scheduled, it looks like our little Peep will be making her appearance into the world on Labor Day (appropriate, huh?), September 2, 2002 unless she decides to surprise us and come earlier! Either way, it will be a c-section for us.

We also discussed my heparin injections and although my RE’s office is having me stop them, my OB is referring me to a Perinatologist to monitor me for the remainder of the pregnancy. I’m also supposed to continue doing 2 shots of 7,000 units until I hear otherwise from the Perinatologist (Peri). So my shot days aren’t over yet. Looks like I’ll reach 500 after all. This news makes me feel a little more comfortable too. Also, since we know I will most likely have a scheduled c-section we’ll be better able to monitor and control the heparin dosage. But that’s all something we still will be finding out at our appointment with the Peri. That appointment will be next week, along with our 36 week ultrasound (due to the GD).

The rest of the appointment went well too. I’ve gained 2 lbs, which is actually a good thing since I’ve only gained 11 lbs the whole pregnancy. My blood pressure was 90/50!!! The best yet; so no fear of preeclamsia. At least that is one thing we don’t need to worry about. My fundal height was 35 cm (I’m 35 weeks along) which was just perfect. I also had to have the strep B test done – after all I’d heard about it, it was nothing. In fact, it was over before I knew it. She just took one of those long q-tip things and swabbed the outside of my vagina with it (tmi?). Then she checked my cervix which is still firm and closed. So everything was pretty much as it should be. Prior to my OB appointment, I had a non-stress test and the Peep passed that with flying colors as well. So I’m set until our appointment next week.

Of course, driving home from the appointment after the euphoria of knowing that by September 2 I would be holding my daughter in my arms wore off, it suddenly hit me all the things we still have to/want to do. I started making a list in my head and then as soon as I got home, made a list on paper. Perhaps I’ll record that list here for posterity’s sake. We’ll see how much we managed to get done and what we didn’t get done.

Things to do before the Peep arrives (not an any specific order) :
Car seat installation and inspection
• Iron and hang curtains
• Order blinds for the nursery
• Borrow and prepare camcorder from my parents
• Put film in cameras (make sure memory sticks are in digital camera case and ready to go)
• Pack bags for hospital
• Sign up for and attend Infant CPR class
• Call Baby Diaper Service and set up account
• Buy one more sheet for the cradle and 1 more set of lap pads
• Type out and post phone numbers for the hospital and OB in case I go into labor
Purchase phone card
• Set up laptop so that we can upload photos and access my journal site
• Test laptop access phone numbers
• Install Zio! on laptop (I LOVE that little thing)
Get batteries for and set up baby monitor
• Put together bouncy seat (and get batteries for that too)
• Get breast pump from my friend
• Get letter prepped to add the baby to our Insurance plan
• Decide what to pack for “entertainment” at the hospital
• Get pre-registration paper work, complete and return
• Decide on a pediatrician
• Get side table from Fred Meyer
• Write out birth plan
• Pick out birth announcements
Get clock radio/cd player for nursery
• Go through boxes of books and find my board and pre-school books to put in the Peeps bookcase
• Replace screen on nursery window
• Finish writing Thank You notes

I’m sure there are even more things that I have to do, but these are the ones that came to mind.

Journal entry continued on 8.9.02

Well, today we got a few of the items knocked off of our list but both Michael and I are having one of those “listless” days again. After a week of feeling pretty full of energy, I’m feeling rather “draggy” again today. Michael just isn’t feeling well. Not sure why. But we managed to go to get the car seat installed and inspected by the local sheriff’s office. We also found a decent and inexpensive clock radio/cd player (for all those lullaby, Mozart, and German Children Songs CD’s we want to play for the Peep). We also purchased the phone card. I called about the Diaper Service and how that works, now I just need to get the information from my parents for the billing, since they are being generous and paying for the diaper service at least at the beginning. We checked out the side table we wanted to purchase (to put next to the rocker in the nursery to hold the phone, a drink for mommy, a lamp and bedtime reading), but they were out of stock and we’ll have to wait and check back in a few days to see if they got any more in. Fortunately they are on sale until the end of the month; unfortunately they are more expensive than either of us remembers. It’s no great furniture, but it serves a purpose, is the right size and has storage in the three drawers. I’d like to paint it eventually but chances are we won’t get that done in the next 3 weeks.

So I can cross a few things off my list, but it’s still pretty long. I’ll try to iron the curtains later today (after it cools down a bit – we actually had some summer weather again yesterday and today), but Michael has to change the height of the curtain rods before I can hang them. I’d like to get the blinds already, but since the Peep will be rooming in with us at first, I don’t feel a lot of pressure to get that done for sure before she arrives.

Well, it’s time to start preparing dinner. Lately I’ve really hated trying to think of something easy to make for dinner. I’m just so darn lazy about cooking. It’s never been something I particularly enjoy, but lately it’s become on of my most hated chores. I’ve been spoiled because we’ve had a few nights out in a row now (last night we had dinner at my parents’ and the night before we went out to dinner with the money Michael’s parents sent us for a dinner out on our anniversary). Not that I’m doing anything fancy tonight – just burgers on the grill. I need some of that energy I had a few days ago back!

Well, so that’s the news around here. I’m going to change the countdown on the side to reflect the new “due date” of September 2. Wow, less than 4 weeks! Wohoo! Though I’m a little anxious about the recovery from the c-section. I hope it is better than my recovery from the fibroid surgery I had last year.
