Happy 2nd Anniversary To Me!!!

Wow, I wrote my whole entry and was about to post it when I realized that today is my 2 year anniversary for my journal!!! Two whole years!!! I just can’t believe that I’ve actually maintained a journal for that long. I scanned some of my earlier entries and am amazed with all that has happened in my life in the last two years. I was just starting down the road of infertility treatment (after trying to conceive for around 9 months already and being diagnosed with PCOS) and Michael and I had just celebrated our first anniversary. We still lived in our townhouse apartment and we both gainfully employed and living well and easy (other than the infertility stuff). So much has happened in such a short amount of time. I wonder what the next two years have in store for us…...

Well, on to my originally typed entry…

Someone just turned up the heat again. Why is it that this year we are getting such extremes in weather. It’s either chilly to the point that I’m wearing mock turtlenecks and we consider turning on the heat, or it’s so warm we feel listless.

Well, today was one of those warm days. Granted the mornings are wonderful. That refreshing briskness of the dew on the grass and a whiff of fall starting to show in the air (can it be??). By noon the south side of our house starts to get uncomfortably stuffy and warm, and by 2:00 the whole house is stuffy and warm and it seems there’s no cool place to go and no air moving.

So today at around 2:15 we headed out of the house and to the oasis of the air-conditioned movie theater for a matinee. Out of our options we chose to see the new Austin Powers and it was about what you would expect from Austin Powers. I find it amusing going into it with the right attitude. It’s not a movie that leaves you thinking about it after you leave the theater, nor is it something you spend a lot of time recalling funny bits here and there. We haven’t even really talked about it since we got home, but it was a nice cool diversion on a hot day. Granted, I had to get up and go to the bathroom 3 times in the middle of it. The Peep either very much enjoyed the soundtrack or hated it, because she was moving all around during it. I think I got more amusement from her activity than what was going on up on the screen, though I admit I did snicker a few times. It’s one of those movies that I wouldn’t pay full price to see in the theaters and I probably wouldn’t have bothered to go see it in the theater at all, except that we wanted to go someplace cool and there wasn’t too much else that we wanted to see that was playing at that time.

When we got home the house was like a little oven. Even with all the windows open and the fans going, it was just plain uncomfortable, so I drew myself a nice cool bath, got myself a nice cold drink and sat in the tub and read for a good hour. Man, did that feel good. I didn’t get out until I was actually starting to feel a bit chilly. Of course, the moment I put my sundress back on, I was warm again, but not as bad as before.

So I didn’t get as much done today as I had hoped, but I am able to check off a number of things on my list.

Things to do before the Peep arrives (not an any specific order) : • Car seat installation and inspection
Iron and hang curtains
• Order blinds for the nursery
• Borrow and prepare camcorder from my parents
• Put film in cameras (make sure memory sticks are in digital camera case and ready to go)
• Pack bags for hospital
Sign up for and attend Infant CPR class
• Call Baby Diaper Service and set up account
Buy one more sheet for the cradle and 1 more set of lap pads
Type out and post phone numbers for the hospital and OB in case I go into labor
Purchase phone card
• Set up laptop so that we can upload photos and access my journal site
• Test laptop access phone numbers
• Install Zio! on laptop (I LOVE that little thing)
Get batteries for and set up baby monitor
• Put together bouncy seat (and get batteries for that too)
• Get breast pump from my friend
• Get letter prepped to add the baby to our Insurance plan
• Decide what to pack for “entertainment” at the hospital
• Get pre-registration paper work, complete and return
• Decide on a pediatrician
• Get side table from Fred Meyer
• Write out birth plan
Pick out birth announcements
• Order birth announcement envelops
Get clock radio/cd player for nursery
• Go through boxes of books and find my board and pre-school books to put in the Peeps bookcase

A number of these things will be completed by the end of this weekend I believe. The next two days are going to be busy to the point of not having a free moment. Tomorrow I’ve got a blood test, then have to dash from Bellevue to West Seattle (45 min??) to meet with a friend who just brought home her adopted son from Korea! I’m excited to see him and chat with her about her experiences. (Which reminds me, I have to write a little note to her to go along with the cute gift I got them.) Then I have leave early enough to avoid bad traffic so that I can make it home by 3:30 which is when another friend of mine is coming over to see the nursery and our house since she wasn’t able to make it to my showers. Fortunately, I already have her thank you note written. She gave me all kinds of things that she had from when her daughter was little – a whole bunch of Avent bottles, a practically new Baby Bjorn, a bottle sterilizer, a bottle warmer, a gymini, and a Peaceful Planet Aquarium. I probably wouldn’t have bought some of these items, but they are sure nice to have.

Then Thursday, I have a non-stress test and OB appointment in the morning while Michael goes to the dentist and then we have to come back later for our ultrasound and meeting with the Perinatologist. Unfortunately we weren’t able to combine everything like the last time, so that necessitates the two trips in one day, which means that day is pretty much shot. I am looking forward to seeing our little Peep again and setting the date for our c-section for sure. I’m hoping the OB will agree to do it on September 2nd. Apparently she is going to be on call although it is a holiday, so she is willing to do it. I like the idea of having our Peep on Labor Day, especially considering the fact that the last two Labor Day holidays have been so difficult for me. (In fact, that second entry was written last year on September 2nd. Perhaps this year I’ll have much happier news to write about on that day.)

Since I’m posting my social calendar for the week, I might as well add that Friday night will be our “Spinster Dinner” night. We decided to make it a girls’ night out to dinner and a movie since it will probably be a while before I’ll be able to do that again for some time. I’m looking forward to it as I always do. I’m so lucky to have such great friends! Plus, I’ll be able to cross “get breast pump from friend” off my list then since I’m getting the breast pump from one of the Spinsters that night.

Saturday we go to our infant cpr class and Sunday we are invited to my sister’s for dinner. Keeping busy is a good thing at this point. It sure makes the days go by faster. Though we’ve decided that the weekend before my c-section is going to be a weekend that we want to spend together alone. Perhaps go out to a nice dinner on Sunday night, maybe see a movie or just spend time together alone for the last time in a while.

Only 19 more days!! 19!! We’re in the teens now!! Wohoo! Eeeeek!
