A Whole Different 2 Week Wait

Back in the day when we were still trying to conceive, we would call the time after ovulation and/or IUI or IVF as the dreaded 2 week wait. Those two weeks always seemed like a month. It was a time of hope, fear of disappointment and a bit of excitement as well. My hopes were always up for the first part of the wait, but as the second week progressed the fear that the treatment didn’t work would always creep in. I usually never spotted before the two weeks were up so my hopes were always high that maybe this time it would be my turn for a positive pregnancy test, only to be crushed when either Aunt Flo showed, or the pregnancy test came back negative.

Once again we find ourselves in a 2 week wait. In many ways it is completely different, and in other ways it isn’t all that different. It’s mainly different because this time hope and happy dreams far outweigh the worry and fear of failure (not that a little fear still doesn’t creep into my heart at times), but it’s very much the same in that the time just seems to be dragging. Knowing the exact date that our little one will be born is both a blessing and a curse. At least we know when we have an “end” and yet knowing exactly when that is makes the days drag a little too.

So the two week wait is on. Two more weeks to feel my baby move inside me. Two more weeks of worrying about her safety in my womb. Two more weeks of wondering what she is going to look like. Two more weeks of worrying about her health and any genetic or physical issues. Two more weeks of sitting in her nursery and dreaming of holding her in my arms for the first time. Two more weeks to prepare for her arrival. Two more weeks to enjoy the attention my big (and growing bigger all the time) belly gets me. Two more weeks of time alone with just my husband. Two more weeks before our dream comes true and is laid in our arms. Two. More. Weeks.

36 Week OB Appointment Update

In my musing about only having two more weeks before our Peep arrives, I almost forgot to post the details of my 36 week appointment. As with our 35 week appointment, everything is looking wonderfully. It started out with a non-stress test which took a little longer since the Peep was not being cooperative and wouldn’t move for the first 10 minutes or so. Finally she started moving around and they were able to see that she was doing just fine.

My blood pressure was great at 110/70 and my weight hadn’t changed from last week. I haven’t gained any more weight since last week’s two pound gain, but the Peep has gained two pounds since the last time we saw her on ultrasound (at 34 weeks) – she’s measuring at about 6 lbs right now. The Perinatologist guesstimates that she’ll be about 7.5 lbs by the time she is born on September 2. More than I had expected, but certainly a good size without being too big. Oh, and I was wrong, I’ve gained 13 lbs this whole pregnancy not 11. I’ve gone up and down so much I had to check back with the nurse to see what my starting weight was back in February. My Strep B culture also came back negative, which is great, and my fundal height was right on target at 36 cm.

We also cemented the date of September 2nd as our Peeps birth date. I now know that I will be going in to the hospital at 6:00 am for pre-op and at around 8:00 am the c-section should begin. So the Peep should arrive shortly after 8:00 am!

To Do List Update

Considering we don’t have a lot of time before our Peep arrives and I am rendered somewhat handicapped from the c-section (at least I have an inkling what I’m in for from my fibroid surgery last year), we’ve been getting quite a few of our to do items checked off of the list. Here is the updated list (if you are interested).

Finish writing thank you notes (!!!!! I finished all my thank you notes this afternoon!!!!! Once I get them mailed off I’m up to date!! Granted my neighbors are talking of throwing us a shower next week, so I’ll be behind again I’m sure.)

We’ve received so many wonderful gifts that it is impossible to post pictures of them all here in my journal, but I have to post a cute picture of me trying out a baby pouch/sling that Lisa made for me. I couldn’t believe how fast she completed it and had it in the mail to me. She also sent me her first attempt at crocheting an afghan as well as a cd that is supposed to help during labor. Since I’m not going through labor it can also be used to help the baby after it is first born adjust to his/her new world outside the womb. It has music and womb sounds. I haven’t listened to it yet, but it sounds interesting. Anyway, here is my first attempt at trying out the pouch….
